Santa Maria Police find fugitive wanted for felony assault

The Santa Maria Police Department says Jeffrey Lee Smith, who was wanted for felony assault, turned himself in to the Santa Barbara County Jail on Sunday around 2:00 p.m.

—INITIAL STORY—

Police are asking for the public’s assistance in finding 26-year old Jeffrey Lee Smith who is wanted for felony assault.

Santa Maria Police responded to a report of felony battery in the early morning hours on Saturday, September 22. When officers arrived, they located a victim suffering from serious injuries and required treatment at the hospital.

The suspect has been identified as 26-year old Jeffrey Lee Smith and is wanted for several felony charges including felony assault and felony assault causing great bodily injuries. Police say Smith is known to frequent the areas of Nipomo and Santa Maria.

Smith is believed to be driving a brown 2000 Chevrolet pickup with a CA license plate, #5EHH240.

Police say Smith is believed to be aware that he is wanted and is considered dangerous and that if you do locate him, he should not be approached.
