Vandenberg AFB opening all beaches as Snowy Plover season ends

Vandenberg Air Force Base officials announced they will be re-opening Surf, Wall and Minuteman beaches on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018.

The openings follow the end to the Snowy Plover season, which normally enforces beach restrictions through Sept. 30 to protect the birds, but officials say all Plover chicks fledged on Sept. 18.

While all fences and signs will be removed, Base officials remind visitors to observe the following beach rules:

No littering (including fishing bait and fish remains). Please use trash containers located at beach entry points. No pets off-leash No camping No beach fires No fireworks No kite flying No feeding wildlife No horses or ATV’s (except for authorized enforcement personnel)

Officials also remind beachgoers that there will be no lifeguards present so remember to never swim alone and be aware of one’s surroundings for safety.
