Santa Barbara Brewing Co. slated to close as new ownership comes in

A popular and long-standing downtown Santa Barbara restaurant is changing its name along with new owners.

The Santa Barbara Brewing Company at 501 State Street is becoming “Cruisery” by mid-October 2018 pending final agreements.

Current Brewing Co. employees — approximately 40 of them — will be interviewed for job openings at the new restaurant after the expected ownership change on Oct. 1, according to KEYT NewsChannel 3 Senior Reporter John Palminteri who spoke with the soon-to-be owner, Aron Ashland.

“We would not have enjoyed years of success without the community, many of whom are now friends, and the 1,500+ employees we have employed over the years. Being the first Brewery in Santa Barbara, we recognize what an important icon SB Brew Co. has become in Santa Barbara,” said owners Wayne and Michelle Trella and Steve Hovdesven in a joint statement. “We are working with our staff to find new jobs, and taking time to properly say goodbye is of utmost importance as we close this chapter.”

Cruisery will aim to bring bicycle and craft beer cultures together, according to Ashland who plans to have a fresh menu and interior improvements. He currently owns Santa Barbara Wine Therapy.
