Armed robber gets away with pack of beer in Atascadero

Authorities in Atascadero are in hot pursuit of a suspected robber that targeted the Chevron gas station located in the 8900 block of Montecito Avenue on Sept. 20.

Atascadero police describe the suspect as a white male adult, approximately 40 years old and sporting a gray goatee. At the time of the robbery, authorities say the man was wearing a black, white and yellow Padres baseball cap with a yellow bill, a dark blue zip-up sweatshirt with white strings, light blue denim jeans, and prescription eyeglasses with a thick black frame.

The suspect entered the gas station shortly before 8:30 p.m. and brandished a large knife before demanding money and stealing a 3-pack of Budweiser beer, police say. The suspect drove away before police arrived.

Authorities describe the suspect’s car as a Lexus RX SUV early 2000’s model with an antenna extending from the rear passenger side near the trunk window.

Officers set up a perimeter to search for the suspect, including making use of K-9 units from the Atascadero Police Department, San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office, and SLO County Probation Department.

At one point during the search, police say officers spotted the suspect but was able to evade capture by running away on foot and remains on the loose.

Authorities released several surveillance photos hoping the community recognizes the man or has information about his whereabouts.

Anyone with any information regarding this crime is asked to contact the Atascadero Police Department at 805-461-5051.
