Arroyo Grande police stop robbery in progress, arrest suspect

Police thwarted a burglary at a business closed for construction renovations in Arroyo Grande Sunday morning and arrested one person.

The incident happened at 1154 E. Grand Avenue. Officers were dispatched just before 6:30 a.m. after an alarm at the business went off. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the front door opened.

After searching inside the building, police discovered a man, later identified as John Guevara, hiding inside.

The Arroyo Grande Police Department says officers determined a key lock box was opened to facilitate door key access to the building. Police say Guevara was also in possession of burglary tools and a battery pack in his pocket.

“The battery pack was determined to have been removed from a burglary alarm control panel inside the premises,” said a statement by the Arroyo Grande Police Department.

Guevara was arrested and booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on burglary, possession of burglary tools, and prowling charges. His bail was set at $20,000.
