Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office hosts “Do You Have What It Takes” event
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office hosted a “Do You Have What It Takes” event on Saturday at Goleta Beach.
Members from the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Unit Team, Special Operations Response Team, Jail Transportation, Patrol, and K-9 Unit were on hand to answer any questions prospective applicants might have.

One woman who lives close to the new County Jail currently under construction said this was an opportunity she could not pass up.
“Just the opportunity to meet different people and try different things. I am looking into getting into the custody deputy program, so I thought this was an awesome opportunity,” said Elvia Astudillo.
The Sheriff’s Office says the hiring process for some applicants could take up to a year.
Custody Lieutenant Brenda Maynard says the Sheriff’s Office is looking for a “good pattern.” Maynard says even if you have past traffic tickets, you should still apply.
