Atascadero teacher arrested on child pornography charges

–UPDATE–

48-year old Chris Lynn Berdoll, the Atascadero Fine Arts Academy teacher accused of inappropriately videotaping female students, posted bail and is out of custody while the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Offices continues investigating this case.

His bail was set at $500,000.

The District Attorney’s Office said that Berdoll is being investigated for “possession of matter depicting a minor engaging in sexual conduct, sexual exploitation of a child, and using a minor for commercial sex acts.”

Berdoll is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 24, 2018, in San Luis Obispo County Superior Court.

An Atascadero teacher was arrested for allegedly recording the undergarments of girl students.

On Sept. 10, 2018, authorities took 48-year old Chris Lynn Berdoll from Atascadero into custody for sexual exploitation of a child and possession of child pornography after the Atascadero Unified School District notified Atascadero Police.

Parents of the victims were notified and investigators are working closely with the District Superintendent and school staff.

Police say it appears that none of the students were physically molested, but videotaping did take place. The video obtained does not contain any adult contact with children.

In an effort to maintain the integrity of the investigation and confidentiality of the teenage victims and their families, no additional information will be released at this time, according to police.

“The courageous individuals who ‘saw something and said something,’ allowed the District to take immediate action to ensure student safety,” stated Superintendent, Thomas Butler. “As a small part of our commitment to the wellbeing of the students, additional counseling services are being made available.”
