Politicians, foundation leaders and voters react to the passing of Sen. John McCain

24th District Rep. Salud Carbajal of Santa Barbara issued a statement that said: “His service, courage, and leadership in the military and as a member of Congress remains an example for all Americans.”

The Congressman traveled to Vietnam with the Senator and former prisoner of war.

“I was humbled to join Senator McCain on an Armed Services Committee visit to Hanoi, Vietnam and learn about his experiences as a prisoner of war and the sacrifices he made for our country. He was a man of conviction and I join the nation in mourning the loss of a true American patriot.”

Voters said they will miss him too.

McCain earned his “maverick” nickname by not always voting with his party.

Voters said they respected that. Geo Barber of Santa Barbara said McCain prooved people are not always divided by politics.
