Hope Ranch burglar caught in the act by Deputies

Deputies catch a burglar in the act after the homeowner watches the suspect through home surveillance.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Dispatch received a call of a possible burglary in the 4300 block of Via Presada in Hope Ranch around 2:00 p.m. on Friday.

Even though the homeowner was not home, they said they saw a man inside their home through a security camera installed inside their home.

Santa Barbara Sheriff’s deputies, Santa Barbara Police, and CHP responded to the residence and established a perimeter.

Within minutes after arriving, the suspect opened a window in the rear of the house and crawled out into the backyard and was met by deputies and was arrested without incident. A K9 unit was called out to assist in ensuring no other suspects were within the house.

Deputies found several pieces of stolen property from inside the residence on 30-year old Santa Barbara resident Jose Calixtro. Deputies searched Calixtro’s car and recovered more stolen property from home.

Calixtro was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail for burglary and possession of stolen property. He is being held on $50,000 bail.
