Police standoff with armed woman at Bradbury Dam, Lake Cachuma over

UPDATE

The police standoff with an armed woman has come to an end.

Officials confirmed that deputies were able to convince the woman to safely surrender. She was taken into custody and will be receiving the help she needs.

Multiple deputies from the Sheriff’s central stations, as well as members of the Hostage Negotiation Team were on scene. The woman was in an isolated area and there was no threat to the public, according to authorities.

INITIAL INFORMATION

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies are on the scene of a reported woman with a gun who has already fired at least two shots.

No one has been injured. Sheriff’s Office Spokeswoman Kelly Hoover said the woman appears to be distraught and may be suicidal. Deputies are trying to establish communication with the woman to resolve this incident peacefully, Hoover said.

The initial call-out at about 3:45 p.m. Thursday, put the woman’s location in the area of Bradbury Dam. A full law enforcement response is presently stationed in the area of Lake Cachuma and Bradbury Dam.

Deputies are establishing a perimeter. The public is asked to avoid that area. Boat activities near the scene of the incident are being diverted by authorities.

Hoover said the woman was seen firing several shots into the air.

No further details were immediately known. This is a developing story.
