Fareed releases campaign attack ad against Carbajal

Republican challenger for California’s 24th Congressional District Justin Fareed has released a campaign ad attacking Democrat incumbent Congressman Salud Carbajal as being soft on public safety and law enforcement.

Flanked by representatives of the U.S. Border Patrol Officers union and Central Coast law enforcement at a press conference in Santa Maria on Tuesday, Justin Fareed unveiled his political advertisement attacking his opponent Salud Carbajal in the race for the 24th Congressional District seat.

Fareed says crime and public safety are not political issues but are real life issues citing the recent murder conviction of an undocumented immigrant, who has a lengthy criminal record but was never deported, in the death of Santa Maria resident Marilyn Pharis.

“My opponent has been on the wrong side of just about every issue when it comes to supporting our local law enforcement, when it comes to keeping our families here on the Central Coast safe”, Fareed said at the Tuesday press conference in Santa Maria, “I want it to be clear that I will be a fighter for our Central Coast families, I will stand with our local law enforcement, I’ll back the badge and I’ll make sure our communities are as safe as possible.”

A spokesperson for the Carbajal re-election campaign issued a statement Tuesday afternoon calling the Fareed campaign ad and other claims false, partisan attacks amounting to empty political rhetoric.

“Congressman Carbajal has worked closely with law enforcement to crack down on MS-13 and stop drug smuggling and human trafficking. That’s why he’s earned the strong support of the largest statewide police officer’s organization, representing more than 70,000 officers”, said Carbajal spokesperson Mollie Culver in the statement, “Congressman Carbajal previously served as a City of Santa Barbara Police and Fire Commissioner and proudly served our country in the Marine Corps Reserves. His long track record of working to keep our communities safe is a direct contrast to the empty partisan rhetoric of his opponent.”

This is Justin Fareed’s second campaign run for the 24th Congressional District seat in California.
