Witnesses assist in rescue of driver over the side of Highway 154

Witnesses assist in rescuing a driver after his car went down a steep embankment on Highway 154 near Cachuma Lake Saturday night.

Santa Barbara County Fire responded to a report of a possible vehicle incident off Highway 154 near Paradise Road involving a fire around 6:25 p.m.

When crews arrived on the scene, they confirmed that there was no fire but a vehicle had driven 100 feet down an embankment off the highway. Crews also found bystanders who witnessed the incident attempting to rescue the driver.

Search and Rescue set up a rope system to bring the driver up to the road.

The 60-year old driver was transported to Cottage Hospital with moderate injuries.

CHP is currently investigating this incident.
