Father and son rescued after getting lost in hills above Santa Barbara

—UPDATE—

A father and a son are safe after getting lost in the hills above Santa Barbara Saturday afternoon.

Santa Barbara County Fire received a call about two hikers in distress near La Cumbre Peak Camino Cielo around 12:36 p.m.

A search and rescue helicopter was called out to find the missing hikers.

The helicopter crew located the hikers and lowered two fire paramedics to rescue them. The two missing hikers were identified to be a 50-year old father and his teenage son.

The rescue team and the hikers were flown to Santa Barbara Airport to be transported to Cottage Hospital via an ambulance.

Santa Barbara County Public Information Officer Mike Eliason says the hikers nonlife-threatening injuries including dehydration.

Initial reports indicate that the crew has located the hikers in the brush near La Cumbre Peak.
