A shooter is on the loose after a man was shot and little girl was injured in Oxnard Wednesday night.

The shooting happened just before 11:30 p.m. on the 1300 block of Edgewood Way while a 56-year-old man was standing outside a parked car while and a 7-year-old girl was inside the vehicle, according to Oxnard police.

Officers patrolling the area of Doris Avenue and N. Ventura Road heard several gunshots and started checking the area for any victims. They eventually received a 911 call that led officers to Edgewood Way where they found the 52-year-old.

Police say the man did not report he had been shot and appeared he had fallen and struck his head. He was initially taken to Saint John’s Regional Medical Center where medics discovered the man had actually been struck in the head by a bullet.

A bullet went through the car’s window and shattered the glass, which injured the 7-year-old girl. The shards of glass cut her arm, Oxnard police say. The little girl was treated on scene by medics.

Authorities say they don’t know the motive for the shooting, and the shooter has not been located.
