Dog allegedly stolen from family camping at Cachuma Lake
Dante the dachshund is the pride of Tyler Coffman’s brother’s life.
“He was just the sweetest dog; everywhere you brought him he would just put a smile on everyone’s face and he was just the happiest little dog,” Coffman said.
Dante would go just about everywhere with the Coffman family, but on Sunday they left without him for the first time.
“It’s just so wrong that someone could take a member of our family from us,” Coffman said.
The Coffman family were breaking down their campsite at Cachuma Lake when they say Dante suddenly went missing from the pen they were keeping him in.
“So many people were leaving around that time that we’re just worried that someone grabbed him and took him away because going around and talking to all the people that were camping around us, [they] didn’t see a dog walk through,” Coffman explained.
Coffman says his family and park rangers searched for hours around the lake for the dog and still no signs that Dante ran away or was taken by an animal.
Coffman now plans on bringing these fliers to local veterinary offices to encourage vets to check the microchip of any similar dachshund that comes in.
“I’m hoping that he was stolen to sell and maybe whoever they sell him to will bring him to the vet at some point and his microchip will be scanned.”
