Hundreds of kids get free backpacks and supplies for new school year

The Housing Authority of the City of Santa Barbara and its nonprofit affiliate 2nd Story Associates handed out essential supplies to hundreds of children in need for the new school year on Saturday.

It was part of the 5th Annual “Tools for School” event.

Children in grades Kindergarten through 12th got to choose a backpack filled with school supplies.

In addition to the school supplies, families were offered educational information and other resources.

The event was made possible through a donation from the local branch of Union Bank.
