Ornamental vegetation fire damages building in downtown Santa Barbara

City fire crews quickly knocked down a small fire near the Post Office in downtown Santa Barbara Saturday afternoon.

Santa Barbara City Fire responded to a report of a structure fire on the 800 block of Anacapa Street around 1:30 p.m. When crews arrived on the scene, they found heavy smoke coming from the rear of the Post Office. Crews found a small fire in the ornamental vegetation on a building next to the Post Office.

Crews knocked down the fire quickly, but the flames caused exterior fire damage.

This fire is currently under investigation.
