Alternative Emergency Number for 9-1-1 set up for Santa Maria

The City of Santa Maria says Verizon Wireless has repaired its network connectivity problem for its cellular customers dialing 9-1-1 within Santa Maria as of 1:55 a.m. Wednesday.

–ORIGINAL STORY–

The City of Santa Maria is reporting that some Verizon Wireless users may be having difficulty emergency dispatch services while dialing 9-1-1.

The City says some Verizon users are receiving error messages when dialing for emergency services. Verizon says they are working to resolve the connectivity problem with its network.

The City has issued this statement:

Santa Maria residents using their Verizon Wireless cell phone service who experience an emergency are asked to first dial 9-1-1. If they get an error message the City encourages them to use this alternate emergency number: (805) 925-2631 to be connected to the City’s emergency dispatch center at the Santa Maria Police Department.
