According to California Highway Patrol, 58-year-old Chan Kee Chung of Rowland Heights died as a result of a car crash Wednesday morning near Cholame “Y.”

ORIGINAL STORY:

One person is dead, and two other army reserve victims are in the hospital with injuries after a fatal crash Wednesday morning near Cholame “Y”.

The California Highway Patrol says a 49-year old Army Reserve Sergeant from San Bernardino was driving a large tactical vehicle in a military convoy eastbound on State Route 46 at Davis Road.

As the second vehicle driven by a 58-year old from Rowland Heights was driving his 2000 Acura TL westbound on State Route 46, the tactical vehicle’s front left tire blew out sending the tactical vehicle into the opposing lane causing a fatal head-on collision.

The passenger of the tactical vehicle, a 24-year old Army Reserve Specialist, and the 49-year old driver both suffered minor injuries and transported to the Twin Cities Hospital.

CHP says the tactical vehicle is bigger than a Humvee with a covered bed that could be used for troop and cargo transportation. However, there was no one in the back of the vehicle during the collision.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this collision and is being investigated by the CHP.

The name of the 58-year old driver has not been released yet.
