Fire in Mission Canyon injures one person

A fire that broke out in the Mission Canyon area Sunday afternoon sent one man to the hospital with severe burns.

City and Santa Barbara County Firefighters responded to a possible vegetation fire near Las Canoas Road in the Mission Canyon area around 7 p.m.

The fire burned about half an acre before crews got it under control.

Firefighters say the blaze was likely sparked by a man who was clearing brush with a chainsaw. He was injured in the fire and was taken to a burn center in Los Angeles.

Fire Officials would like to remind people always to have a hose or a fire extinguisher nearby when doing any type of brush clearance.
