Santa Maria 11-year-olds raise money for kids battling cancer at the Santa Barbara County fair

It’s not just fun and games at the Santa Barbara County fair. A pair of 11 year-old twins auctioned off their pigs during the Junior Live Auction event on Saturday. They’re donating part of the proceeds to local cancer foundations.

“We’re donating 5% to the Lexi Brown foundation, and 5% to the Noah Scott foundation,” said Paige Taylor, a 1st year Los Alamos grange member

“Both [pigs] are going to raise money for kids who have cancer,” twin sister Hailee Taylor continued.

The girls know all to well what it’s like to see someone battling cancer. Their father is one example.

“They were with me with my struggle the whole time,” explained Jesse Taylor, who’s been in remission since 2010. “And so it really hits home for them.”

The girls were also close friends with Lexi Brown, the 12 year-old Santa Maria cancer patient who passed in 2016.

“She was really nice and kind and caring,” Paige said.

Paige raised money for Brown’s foundation once before.

“My sister raised $1,000 before she shaved her head, and so we kinda just like to help out as much as we can,” explained Hailee.

Now the Taylor family is glad they’ve had another chance to give back.

“T o see all the people come together as one and donate –especially the ones that are still struggling right now. –for us to be a minuscule part of it is just heartfelt,” the girls’ father said.

About $700 dollars were raised for the Lexi Brown and the Noah Scott foundations at the Junior Live Auction on Sunday.
