Two San Luis Obispo women thwart sexual assault after fighting off intruder
San Luis Obispo police continue searching for a suspect they say attempted to sexually assault two women in their 20’s on Friday, July 13.
The suspect, identified as a muscular Hispanic man in his 40’s, approximately 5-feet 7-inches tall wearing black boxer shorts and a nylon over his head, threatened the women with a knife, according to police. Authorities say the two victims woke up to find the suspect in their bedroom in the 1500 block of Osos Street.
After threatening to harm them if they screamed, the victims fought the suspect causing him to run away from the home, say investigators. A witness told police the suspect ran past the area of Osos and Leff Street towards the railroad station, but officers were not able to find the suspect despite a lengthy search.
The suspect was reportedly only wearing a black shirt and socks when he ran away from the victims’ home. Police say the suspect description and actions are similar to a sexual assault that occurred on July 8, 2018, and are looking into the possibility the two crimes may be related.
Investigators say the suspect entered the home through an unlocked window. SLO police remind residents to secure all windows and doors to their home and vehicles, and report all suspicious activity to police.
The investigation is ongoing. Authorities are looking for any surveillance video that may have captured the suspect entering or leaving the area of the 1500 block of Osos Street and the area of Osos and Leff streets towards the railroad station.
