Women’s Economic Ventures honors women who showed resiliency during disasters

During the Thomas Fire, the owners of Chocolats du CaliBressan evacuated to their State Street shop.

When the Montecito mudslides hit, Jill Marie Carre was separated from her husband, Jean Michel Carre, who was busy making chocolates in Carpinteria.

Jean Michel Carre said Women’s Economic Ventures (WEV) helped them stay in business by reminding members to shop locally. WEV honored them with the People’s Choice award at the new Hilton Santa Barbara Resort on Wednesday night.

WEV also honored other women-owned businesses that showed resiliency during the disasters.

Emily Barany of Visionality was a nominee. Visionality created ThomasFireHelp.org that spearheaded airlifts to and from hospitals during the 101 closure caused by the debris flow.
