Rapper Super Duper Kyle gives huge donation to Ventura High School

A popular rap artist known as “Super Duper Kyle” is giving back in a huge way to the school and teacher who inspired him

Performing on stage is where Ventura native Kyle Harvey, otherwise known as Super Duper Kyle feels most at home. He describes his first time on stage at Coachella last month as surreal.

“I was like wow! I made it to that dream of mine,” said Kyle Harvey. “I am actually here.”

But the stage is nothing new for this 25-year-old. In fact, his love of performing in front of a crowd began as a freshman at Ventura High School.

“My counselors and a lot of other people were trying to make me play a lot of sports and I kept reminding them that I am trash. I am not good at sports,” said Harvey. “The only thing that I kind was interested at the time was drama.”

“At the end of his sophomore year he did a scene in a showcase we had and he made everyone cry and I think he got hooked,” said Stefonie Rossitier, Ventura High School’s Theater Arts teacher.

Rossitier was Kyle’s theater arts teacher. She says even back then he had a voice and moves playing Bobby in The Boyfriend and Seaweed in Hairspray.

“Stefonie really took the time to help me come out of my shell,” said Harvey. “She pushed me to get more and more involved. And then I started noticing that Damn, I’m kinda good at this.”

The two remained close keeping in touch throughout Kyle’s successful musical career. A week after he was back from performing at Coachella, Rossitier received a call that he was back in town.

“I said oh my god we got this great show called “Seussical” you need to come see,” said Rossitier.

Not only did Kyle show up, but he gave back in a big way. Harvey donated $10,000 to the theater department.

“Since the day I left Ventura high school I wanted to give back in some sort of way,” said Harvey. “One of the most vital parts of me getting to where I am right now definitely has to be joining the drama department.”

The theater department plans to use the money for new microphones, lights, and other equipment. As for Kyle, it was a small price to pay for a place where it all began.

“It reminded me of how much of a better person that experience made me,” said Harvey. “I will never forget the first people that believed in me.”
