Cat Therapy hosts a kitten shower in Santa Barbara

Cat Therapy, Santa Barbara ‘s only cat cafe, hosted a kitten shower on Sunday for kittens needing adoption.

In honor of Cat Therapy’s first 105 adoptions in less than a year, Cat Therapy and Stray Cat Alliance organized a kitten shower. Attendees got to bottle feed and learned how to care for the kittens properly.

“These events are really exciting because they not only save the lives of these kittens, but they teach people how important it is to save the kittens,” said Christi Metropole, Executive Director of Stray Cat Alliance. “There is a lot of education that we are doing today.”

According to Metropole, there is no system to bottle feed kittens in most southern California shelters. In places like Los Angeles, shelters still euthanize thousands of cats a year due to lack of space and resources at their facilities. However, Santa Barbara County is a “no-kill” county.

Cat Therapy founder, Catalina Esteves, says that organizations like Stray Cat Alliance give neonatal kittens a second chance at getting stronger, and finding a home.

“We understand that a lot of people can’t adopt or foster cats a home. That is why we opened Cat Therapy,” said Esteves.

Cat Therapy, which usually fosters adult cats, hosted the event and 60% percent of the proceeds were donated to the Stray Cat Alliance to raise funds for all the kittens expected this spring. Metropole says events like the kitten shower allow the cats to show their personalities which increases their chances of being fostered or even being adopted.
