Diesel spill closes down US Highway 101 through Ventura County

Emergency crews are on scene of a diesel fuel spill that has currently two traffic lanes of U.S. Highway 101 southbound in Ventura County.

The spill involving a semitrailer was reported shortly after 9 a.m. Friday in the area of Mussel Shoals. The California Highway Patrol initially said that all freeway lanes were blocked, but at about 9:38 a.m., the fast traffic lane opened up.

The spill caused a major traffic backup for the morning commute through Ventura County.

Safety crews are on scene working to clear the spill. The traffic lanes that are closed will not reopen until crews determine it is safe to do so.
