Police arrest Oxnard homicide suspect Jonathan Fuentes, victim identified

UPDATE

Police have arrested 21-year-old Jonathan Fuentes in connection with a homicide that occurred in Oxnard Wednesday night.

Authorities located Fuentes in the 6500 block of Ventura Boulevard in Ventura Thursday morning and taken into custody after receiving a tip on his whereabouts at 7 a.m.

The tip led officers from the Oxnard and Ventura police departments to search the area near a Motel 6 that was located on Johnson Drive in Ventura. At 9:30 a.m., Fuentes was arrested.

The victim has been identified by police as 33-year-old Ryan Switzer of Ventura.

Authorities say Switzer was Fuentes’ brother-in-law and both lived in the same house on Deodar Avenue in Oxnard. Detectives believe that Switzer and Fuentes were involved in a family argument when the shooting happened.

Authorities are searching for a 21-year-old man believed armed and dangerous suspected of shooting and killing a person in Oxnard Wednesday night.

Jonathan Fuentes, 21, is on the run from police following a homicide that occurred in the 300 block of West Deodar Avenue at about 9 p.m. on March 14.

Fuentes is described as a light-skinned Hispanic with a thin build, 6-feet 1-inches tall, weighing approximately 150 pounds with short black hair, brown eyes, wears sunglasses, thin mustache, a small amount of hair on his chin and wearing a black jacket.

Police advice anyone that sees Fuentes not to approach him as he is considered armed and dangerous. Call 911 immediately.

Detectives don’t believe the motive for the murder is gang-related
