Popular Santa Barbara bakery ‘Our Daily Bread’ closes part of its business

A popular bakery and cafe in midtown Santa Barbara has closed up part of its shop.

A sign is posted on the doors at Our Daily Bread at the corner of De La Vina and Alamar Streets.

Owners Joe and Heather Larson explained in the letter to customers that they “regret” that they’ve had to close the cafe “until further notice.”

NewsChannel 3 talked to Joe by phone Wednesday afternoon. He was busy working in the bakery.

“We’re working to come back to something similar,” Joe said. “We’re getting our feet back under us and hoping to reopen. We just don’t know when.”

The couple purchased the bakery roughly two years ago from its previous and longtime owner, Lori Zalk. Zalk moved the business from Santa Barbara Street in 2013.

Joe said the wholesale bakery will remain open for phone orders and pick-up and deliveries at the same De La Vina Street location.

Customers will also find Our Daily Bread products at a handful of markets including Tri-County Produce, Lazy Acres, Vons on the Mesa, Albertsons in Carpinteria and Albertsons on Calle Real in Goleta.
