Boat rides between Santa Barbara, Ventura harbors continue during US 101 closure

The Condor Express and Island Packers have helped people get to and from home and work during the closure of U.S. Highway 101 in the wake of the Montecito mudflow.

Passengers said it is a nice alternative to taking the train or a long car ride around the closure.

The rides cost $32 each way and allow people to get a good look at the Thomas Fire burn area that led to the mudslides during the storm in Montecito on Tuesday morning Jan. 9.

The boats will continue to ferry passengers several times a day while U.S. 101 remains closed in Montecito.
