Two Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies injured making arrest

Two Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies were injured while attempting to make an arrest Tuesday night.

The deputies were called to the 2600 block of Eucalyptus Drive in the unincorporated neighborhood of Nyeland Acres. The suspect was reportedly under the influence of a controlled substance, authorities say.

While trying to arrest 24-year-old Eduardo Garcia at his home, officials say both deputies were injured as he fought back. Additional deputies arrived at the scene shortly thereafter and arrested the suspect.

During the struggle, Garcia allegedly took a Taser from a deputy and attempted to shoot the deputy with it but missed and the Taser darts shot towards a family member that was present on scene but not involved in the altercation.

Both deputies were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. They have since been released. The suspect was also hospitalized with minor injuries suffered during the arrest, authorities say.

The Sheriff’s Office says Garcia was on parole for felony battery of a peace officer in a separate case. Detectives contacted agents from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation on Wednesday to inform them about the incident.

Garcia was booked into Ventura County Main Jail on resisting an executive officer by means of force, battery on a peace officer causing injury, taking a weapon from a peace officer, and attempted assault with a deadly weapon.
