Goleta ice rink settles environmental reporting violation

A Goleta ice rink is now in good standing with the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office following an environmental reporting violation.

Ice in Paradise, which is owned and operated by Greater Santa Barbara Ice Skating Association (GSBISA), was not in compliance with California law after they failed to report the use of hazardous materials stored at the facility that are used as a refrigerant to keep the ice cold.

The non-profit organization did not submit a Hazardous Materials Business Plan, which includes critical information for emergency responders.

According to Santa Barbara County District Attorney Joyce Dudley, GSBISA immediately filed the necessary paperwork, implemented necessary training and will pay $5,000 in fines.

Ice in Paradise said in a released statement, “the safety of our skaters and of the broader community is our top priority.”
