Suspect in fatal Ventura County hit and run arrested at LAX

A suspect in a fatal hit and run accident that occurred in July in Ventura County was arrested Thursday at Los Angeles International Airport.

At around 11 a.m., Patrick John McVicker, 48, of Ventura was taken into custody by US Customs and Border Protection officers. California Highway Patrol arrived on scene and arrested McVicker on an outstanding warrant.

McVicker is believed to have been driving on US 101 on July 6 when his vehicle collided with the vehicle of 69-year-old John Slade of Ojai.

McVicker left the scene on foot, leaving behind his passenger and Slade in the other car. Slade died the next day at the hospital.

Slade was a retired teacher and an accomplished actor who was well known in Ventura County.

It is unclear at this time what charges McVicker will face or where he will be appear in court.
