Ventura police searching for armed bank robber

The Ventura Police Department is searching for a suspect who robbed a bank Friday afternoon in Ventura.

At around 2 p.m., police responded to a report from an alarm company regarding a robbery alarm activated at Rabobank located at 1171 South Victoria Ave.

An employee of the bank called 911 to report the robbery.

Officers arrived on scene and determined that the suspect had already fled the scene and was last seen riding a small BMX bicycle westbound through a shopping center.

Investigators learned that the suspect entered the bank and revealed a black semi-automatic handgun from inside of an envelope.

The suspect demanded money and the clerk complied and gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect then fled on the bicycle.

Police searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

No one was injured in the robbery.

Photos from the bank’s security camera show the man wearing a hard hat and reflective clothing, similar to a construction worker’s uniform.

The Ventura Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit is conducting the investigation. Anyone with information related to this incident is urged to call the Ventura Police Department at (805) 339-4488.

The FBI has also been notified.
