Whale stuck in Ventura Harbor returns to ocean
The wayward whale that was stuck in the Ventura Harbor Saturday afternoon has returned to the ocean.
Ventura Harbor Patrol said the whale was not located during the morning sweep of the harbor.
The whale was stuck in the harbor and appeared disoriented throughout Saturday evening.
Harbor Patrol and Coast Guard officials attempted to lure the marine mammal out by using underwater acoustic sounds, a method utilized in San Francisco.
Jennifer Levine from Channel Islands Marine and Wildlife said the animal appeared to suffer minor scrapes and injuries from repeatedly running into the dock and boats, but nothing that would debilitate the whale.
Crews were prepared to continue rescue efforts into Sunday morning but will now simply monitor the harbor.
