Governor Brown appoints SLO attorney to superior court judgeship

California Governor Jerry Brown announced on Monday that he has appointed San Luis Obispo resident Tana L. Coates to a judgeship in the San Luis Obispo County Superior Court.

The 58-year-old democrat has been a partner at Coates and Coates LLP since 2009, and prior to that was a partner at James R. Murphy, Jr. and Tana L. Coates, a law corporation.

Coates earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Houston Law Center and a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Texas.

She fills the vacancy left by Judge Martin J. Tangeman.

The compensation for this position is $191,612.
