Playground replacement project to close Santa Barbara’s Shoreline Park

Shoreline Park along the Santa Barbara waterfront will be closed for replacement beginning May 30th.

The playground was last replaced in 2002 and is due for a replacement, according to the Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation Department.

The new playground will be safety-rated for ages 2 to 5 and will provide all the features found in the original playground city officials say. The existing rockers will be replaced by a spinner but the wooden swing set, concrete dolphin, and turtle will stay put.

“We do like to add new playground features when we can, but in the case of Shoreline Park the community let us know they love this playground just the way it is,” said Rich Hanna, Assistant Parks and Recreation Director. “We think our loyal Shoreline fans will be happy when the playground reopens in June–the elements of the new playground will be very much the same.”

While the replacement project is underway, the following nearby park playgrounds will be open to the public:

Los Banos del Mar Pool: 401 Shoreline Drive. Playground ages 2-5 Bath Street Pocket Park: Corner of Bath and Ortega Street. Playground ages 2-5 La Mesa Park: 295 Meigs Road. Playground ages 5-12
