Two arrested in connection to December homicide in Oxnard
Two men were arrested Friday in connection to a murder that occurred in December, 2016 in Oxnard.
At around 6:00 a.m. on the morning of December 8, 25-year-old Giovanni Vega was found shot to death on the 200 block of West Vineyard Avenue.
During the course of the investigation, detectives were identified Christopher Arevalo, 24, and Joseph Minister, 23, as suspects in Vega’s death.
Detectives believed Vega’s death may have been gang related.
Authorities were able to obtain sufficient evidence against Arevalo and Minister in order to arrest them for the murder of Vega.
Major Crimes Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Arevalo and requested assistance from the FBI as Arevalo had fled the state and was reportedly living in New Mexico.
On Friday at around 7:00 a.m., FBI agents spotted Arevalo at a residence in Farmington, New Mexico. A SWAT Team served a federal search warrant at the residence and took Arevalo into custody without incident.
Arevalo is currently being held at the San Juan County Adult Detention Facility in New Mexico but authorities are beginning the process of extraditing him back to Ventura County.
Later that day at around 6:00 p.m., Oxnard Police Officers contacted and arrested Joseph Minister at his residence. He is currently in custody at the Ventura County Jail for murder with a bail set at $2 million.
