Former Arroyo Grande teacher sentenced for unlawful sex with minor

A former Arroyo Grande High School teacher will serve six months in jail after pleading no contest to a charge of unlawful sex with a minor.

Tara Stumph appeared in San Luis Obispo Superior Court on Thursday where she was sentenced to serve 180 days in San Luis Obispo County Jail. Stumph will also receive four years of felony probation and must participate in a “sex offender management program.”

The program requires Stumph attend a special counseling program and stay away from middle school or high school age children and schools.

Stumph was a culinary arts teacher at the high school when she was accused of having sex with a student from December, 2014 through December, 2015.

Stumph was 36 when she was formally charged for the crime.
