Lompoc police investigating weekend shooting

The Lompoc Police Department is investigating reports of shots fired at a nearby alley in the 500 block of North L and M streets over the weekend.

Police say multiple 911 calls started coming into the station at about 8:42 p.m. Sunday.

A witness reported seeing several people fleeing the area on foot and then finding a pistol that had been left in the alley, according to police.

“I just heard a loud noise, gunshots.. and I was like what is that,” apartment manager Jose Ceja said.

Investigators collected the pistol, along with several shell casings that were located just a short distance away. No injuries were reported in this incident. Lompoc police say one bullet struck a building with people inside.

“I was like, it must be a kid’s toy gun or something but when I got closer to it I was like no this looks real,” Ceja said about discovering the pistol.

No arrests have been made at this time regarding this case. The police department is asking anyone that has information about this incident to call them at 805-736-2341.

“I really feel unsafe, would really appreciate it if never happened again and the people who did this are in the wrong because there are so many kids here who are innocent,” Lompoc grandmother Stephanie Recio said.
