Jazz Jam helps raise scholarship funds for jazz camp

The Channel Cities Jazz Club hosted a jazz jam in the Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard on Sunday afternoon.

The club invited students from local high schools to perform.

They included a soloist from Ventura High and the entire Oxnard High School Jazz Ensemble.

Jazz enthusiasts passed around a yellow bucket to collect cash for music scholarships.

All the money raised will help several students attend the Traditional Jazz Camp in Sacramento in July or August.

Camp tuition is $675 for a week.

One member recalled seeing Louise Armstrong when he was 17. He said it changed his life.

The goal of the Channel Cities Jazz Club is to keep jazz alive.
