Couple’s pet dog recovering after vicious ‘pit bull’ attack
A small dog was hospitalized after a vicious attack at the Mission Rose Garden in Santa Barbara Thursday afternoon.
6-pound Enzo, a mix-breed dog, was with his owner, Kelly Marie, and another dog enjoying the scenery in front of the Old Mission. Marie, her husband Sage Marie and their two dogs are in Santa Barbara for a business trip. Marie says a dog came up from behind and grabbed Enzo with its mouth during their visit to the rose garden.
Marie and a witness described the dog as a tan 3-legged pit bull.
Marie tried to separate the dogs while keeping her other dog, Quinn, at a safe distance. She tells NewsChannel 3 Reporter Vicky Nguyen that a good Samaritan named Allison gave her a towel to wrap Enzo.
While this incident occurred, Marie says the owner of the attacking dog took off. She describes the man as an Asian male in his 20’s. He was seen speeding off in a Volkswagen wagon with partial plate numbers: JGH065 or JQH.
Allison ended up taking Marie to a local veterinarian hospital after the attack.
Enzo had emergency surgery and now his family is facing more than $4,000 in medical expenses. They’ve set up a GoFundMe page–https://www.gofundme.com/enzos-surgery-expenses.
A police report was filed. The suspect is believed to be from Lompoc. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to call the Santa Barbara Police Department.
