Nearly 150 evicted RV campground residents now living in hotels, streets

About four months ago we first told you about an entire RV campground of people who were evicted. Tonight we bring you an update to where those people are now after being forced out of the Santa Maria Pines Campground – where those people used to call home.

All that stands at the RV campground now is a metal fence and “No Trespassing” sign. Back in November nearly 150 people were forced out of there.

Now they’re living in hotels – some of them roaming from place to place in their RV’s.

“This is it man, this is where we got to stay now,” former campground resident Javier Paz said.

Javier Paz now calls a Best Western hotel room, home.

“We still got our computer setup and we’ve got a mess but it’s living right now,” Paz said.

Paz and his girlfriend were longtime residents – and employees at the Santa Maria Pines Campground.

Many of the people who were staying at the RV campground were from out of state and have since moved back.

“Next thing you know we’ve got people pounding on our doors wanting us to get out, everybody had to leave too, we had people from all over the United States there and staying for job transfers and we all had to leave the area,” Paz said.

Some tenants were so upset with the way the property owners handled the 28 day eviction, they’ve filed a lawsuit.

“This is hometown business here, everybody knows each other, we don’t do stuff like that to anybody around here, they did, so what can we do, ya know,” Paz said.
