Passenger killed in single-vehicle collision in Ventura

A 21-year-old man was killed early Sunday morning after the vehicle he was riding in crashed in Ventura.

According to Ventura Police Department, the crash occurred at around 6:45 a.m. at the intersection of Victoria Avenue and Telephone Road.

When officers arrived on scene they found a 21-year-old woman in the driver’s seat suffering from major injuries. She was transported to a local hospital and she is expected to survive.

The passenger of the vehicle was found trapped and unconscious in the front seat. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the crash is under investigation and the southbound lanes of Victoria Avenue and Telephone Road were closed for a few hours while police investigated the crash.

The name of the man who died will be released pending notification of next of kin.
