Lompoc family talks about their bunny before it was stolen and killed

Tears run down Armando Matute’s face as he remembers his pet bunny, Fluffy. To him, his bunny was a part of the family.

“It’s hard to know you can’t pet your bunny anymore,” he says.

His mother is now doing everything she can to console him. He didn’t know the last time he would see his pet was on Thursday as he was leaving for school.

“Angry and sad about how someone right around the corner from us can snatch a bunny and torture it,” he says.

Lompoc Police say on Thursday morning, three teenage boys stole Fluffy right out of the family’s front yard,

They say they took the bunny to a nearby home where detectives say the boys allegedly tortured and killed it.

“In my mind all I can think is how am I going to explain this to my son because this is mainly his pet and it’s like our friend and family member,” says Ariadna Calvo, his mom.

It’s a conversation Calvo didn’t know how to have with her son. She had gotten Fluffy for him as a pet nearly two years ago.

It is one of Armando’s favorite memories, “it was the first time I got him that I didn’t know my mom had a bunny under the cover in our back seat.”

The family says after speaking to a police officer they now have more questions than answers.

They want to know why someone would do this to their pet.

“He explained how on top of the dog messing with it and ripping it apart that the kids were caught playing with the bunny and throwing it up in the air,” she says.

Fluffy’s bowl and water bottle are all that remain in the family’s front yard.

For Armando he will always have the memories of his pet bunny.

The three teens were charges with animal cruelty and were booked into juvenile hall.
