Police chase leads to arrest and loaded gun

Santa Barbara Police have arrested a man who ran from officers and reportedly tossed a loaded handgun towards a west beach business.

Officers made contact with a man, later identified as Edmond Sorrel from Ventura, while he was in front of a Montecito Street convenience store.

Sorrel approved a search but police say in moments he took off running.

Officers were behind Sorrell when they say he threw a hand gun towards a nearby business.

Sorrell was tackled in the back of a produce company near the railroad tracks. He was handcuffed and taken in.

He is expected to face charges of possession of a concealed loaded handgun and a probation violation.

The weapon was a 22 caliber gun. It was found by investigating officers and taken in as evidence.

It’s unknown if Sorrell is connected to any local crimes, or why he had the loaded gun.
