Orcutt couple decorates home for Christmas

Berto and Betty Van Veen get into the Christmas spirit every year. If you take a look inside of their home you’ll find Christmas trees, a collection of Santa Clauses and hand painted ornaments.

“It’s a Dutch Santa Claus here and that’s how it looks in Holland and we have a collection of Santa Claus’s from all over the world,” says Berto Van Veen.

Their house sits on Glacier Lane in Orcutt. The candy cane trail will lead you to their front door where you get the first taste of the holiday spirit when you’re greeted by a Santa Claus.

The Van Veen’s have been decorating their home like this for the past 16 years. They say it’s all about teamwork, one decorates the house with flowers while the other puts up the nativity scene.

The holiday however, is much more then the decorations in their home. They say it’s all about family. Every year they get together with their daughters and their grandchildren and celebrate Christmas.

“To have your family around you no fighting and not only that but, we celebrate the birth of Christ, that’s what it’s all about,” says Van Veen.

They recently opened their holiday home as part of the Royal Family Kids Holiday Home Tour to help a Santa Maria organization raise money for foster children. The Van Veen’s say they plan to keep this holiday tradition going.
