Suspect in Santa Barbara hit-and-run arrested

Santa Barbara police have arrested 21-year-old Isaac Vincent Vega of Montecito in connection with a hit-and-run crash on December 2 that left a Santa Barbara City College student fighting for his life.

Authorities say Vega was out of custody, on bail for a previous arrest, at the time he allegedly committed the hit-and-run.

Investigators say that on Dec. 2 at about 2:30 a.m., Vega was driving a white 1999 Honda CRV westbound on the 300 block of W. Cabrillo Boulevard when he struck 23 year-old Drew Christopher Daly as he walked across the street southbound. Police say Vega then fled the scene.

A passerby discovered Daly critically injured on the side of the street about two hours after the crash.

Police arrested Vega on Dec. 7 at 5 p.m. in the 100 block of Harbor Way. The suspect vehicle was located at Vega’s home and was subsequently impounded.

Vega was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail for: Hit-and-run causing injury, commission of a felony while released from custody, unlicensed driver, and false information to a peace officer. His bail was set at $75,000.

The Santa Barbara Police Department says this accident should once again remind citizens to always stop if involved in an accident, and always try and help if someone is injured.

“We can all celebrate that he (Vega) is in custody,” says Sgt. Riley Harwood, the public information officer for the department. “It is your civic duty and responsible to help out a fellow citizen if they are injured at the scene of an accident. Failing to do so will simply make matters worse.”
