Oxnard death investigation determined to be a homicide
Oxnard police confirm the city’s 10th homicide of the year after ruling a suspicious death they’ve been investigating since July 2016 a homicide.
The crime occurred on July 3 at about 9 a.m. at the Timbers Apartments in the 300 block of West Vineyard Avenue.
Police was called to the scene to investigate a trespassing incident at the apartment complex and found 24-year-old Billy Navarro dead from a gunshot wound. Navarro was the former resident of the apartment in which he was found, according to investigators.
At the time, Major Crimes detectives determined the circumstances surrounding Navarro’s death were suspicious in nature and treated the investigation as a homicide. Detectives ultimately gathered enough evidence to officially classify this crime as a homicide.
