Jazz Festival Held By The Beach In Oxnard

Organizers of the inaugural Oxnard Jazz Festival are already thinking about the next one.

Mark Delgado said they hope to bring music with soul to local venues.

Saturday’s venue at Oxnard Beach Park looked like a miniature Coachella festival.

There was a main stage surrounded by vendors and an area by the beach with food trucks, cupcakes and more.

Oxnard High School Jazz Band kicked off the event before noon. Bandleader Fundi Legohn talked about the need to put music back in elementary schools to feed into high school bands. He said his band is, “keepin’ the music alive,” and can be hired to perform.

The artist lineup that followed included Jade, Pancho Sanchez, Tom Brown and Nick Colionne.

Producer Chuck Dennis received a proclamation from the the Ventura County Board of Supervisors honoring the event.

Although tickets cost $45 and up, kids cost $15 and youngsters 5 and under were free.
