Coffee Cat Closing in Downtown Santa Barbara After More Than 20 Years

A Santa Barbara Coffee Shop on a busy corner for more than 20 years is no longer going to be the daily perk for many customers.
The Coffee Cat on Anacapa and Anapamu Streets is going to close at the end of this month.

The owner says she is shifting careers but this business has been unique allowing her to meet an array of people who have come through her doors for coffee and conversation.

Krista Fritzen was greeting many guests today with hugs and memories on the front side of the counter She says she has seen, “doctors and lawyers and politicians and lots of students and artists and photographers and screen writers. It’s a huge space and you can actually sit down and relax and spread out a little bit.”

She is still not sure what will come of her neon signs and some of the other collectables.
Many customers today were treated to a special appreciation morning with complimentary drinks and breakfast bites.

Some also left farewell messages on the chalk board next to the counter where daily specials used to be posted.

Fritzen is changing careers, but she thinks the site may still one day in the future be serving coffee and food again.
